Regional Electives
AMPLIFY gathers the breadth of Christian denominations together, celebrating what unites us. Our keynote and electives speakers are selected to stimulate thinking and encourage action. Our hope is, that although not all speakers may express views that every denomination will affirm, they can provide opportunity for reflection and dialogue whilst keeping the main thing, the main thing.
The following legend indicates the ministry area each elective is most suited for :

a fresh look at leadership
In summing up, it’s the constitution, it’s Mabo, it’s justice, it’s law, it’s the vibe, and … no, that’s it … it’s the vibe. I rest my case.” The Castle, 1997 Often the emphasis of leadership is recruiting & training a team, and setting strategies & goals towards a vision of ministry & mission. As important as that is, that’s only part of the picture. This session will emphasise the need to attend to ‘the culture’ or ‘the vibe’ of your ministry or mission team. There are at least nine aspects to this and we will set ourselves a direction to explore them all!

Unfortunately many people are leaving christianity and or church in droves as they don’t feel there are many safe spaces where doubt and questions can be explored in a non-judgemental manner. What would it look like to change that reality for people. How can our churches and faith communities be safe and welcoming spaces for the nones and the doubters.

Discover how questions engage students (Live)
Christian RI is about helping students to question, explore and discover the Christian faith through growing their understanding of God, Jesus and the Bible. One of the most valuable skills when working with upper Primary aged students is using questions that engage them and encourage them to reflect and think through what they are learning. Questioning also provides a link between what they are learning and how this applies to their own lives.
Whilst many of us may think we ask good questions, or can respond to most questions, thinking through questions to ask, and questions that may arise, as you plan a RI lesson (or a Children’s Church session) heightens the engagement and the thinking processes of students and children.
Discover how to form questions to achieve better reflection and thinking. Discover how to effectively manage questions asked by students. Discover the value of a ‘question box’. Discover how to use questions to link bible stories to the real world of the life of students.

Hearing God's Voice (Live)
A subject that may seem intimidating to teach at first, often because we will always be learning to hear Gods voice more clearly for ourselves, but such a fundamental part of our relationship with God as we seek His guidance and listen to the gentle promptings of the Holy Spirit in every part of our lives. When I started walking with God again I would often hear people say “God said this, God showed me this” and I would get frustrated because I prayed and felt like God had never spoken to me, until I began to understand the different ways that God speaks, then I soon realised God had been speaking to me for a long time! I just needed to learn the ways He spoke, how much trouble I could have saved myself if I had understood His promptings from a younger age!
Join me as I lead you in creative and engaging prayer activations that help Children (and adults!) from newest of believers to those who are experienced in the prophetic draw closer to God to not only understand some of the ways that God speaks, but to also hear Gods voice more clearly for themselves. There is nothing that compares to the way a child’s face lights up the first time they have a personal encounter with God, that the things they have heard about God are not simply words but become reality that the creator of Heaven and earth not only wants relationship with them and has spoken to them!

Hi I’m Gem,
I love all things creative, all things Jesus and all things kids!
I have been the Children’s Ministry leader at MCF for almost 4 years now, and feel beyond blessed to be called into a role that involves so many things that I love.
Growing up I did not have any Christian family, however around 10years old I was invited by friends to Children’s Ministry, suddenly I found myself going to church every week, where many wonderful people sowed such vital seeds in my life leading me to accepting Christ and becoming the person I am today. Knowing just how valuable those seeds were, and the love I received when I needed it the most led me to becoming so passionate about Children’s Ministry and our future generation.
I love the quote “We are not Disciples in waiting, we are Disciples in training” and believe equipping kids to have a personal relationship with God starts today. I have a passion for teaching Hearing the voice of God as I believe hearing Gods voice and learning to obey is the most valuable tool we can have, I feel blessed beyond measure to be able to be a part of God’s work, helping Children know Him, and equipping leaders to use their gifting’s to serve within Children’s Ministry.
I look forward to serving on the Amplify team again this year and can’t wait to see you!

Leading out of a Spiritually Healthy Place (Live)
I recently heard someone say, “Emotional energy is not the same as spiritual power.” It got me thinking! We can have a whiz-bang program, all the strategy in the world, leadership skills coming out of our ears, enough charisma to lead a nation, but if we are not in a spiritually healthy place, our ministry will be ineffective. How can we ensure our relationship with Jesus is our priority and minister out of the overflow of that?

Learning to apply cross-cultural missions here at home (on screen)
I wonder how you respond when you see the word – CHANGE? This has been an extended season of ongoing and unprecedented change. As leaders we’ve been required to adapt, to pivot, to drop and to create – often with very short lead times, limited resources and in a context of high expectations. Sometimes the pace and frequency of change has left us exhausted or disillusioned, other times it finds us energised and inspired. While leading change in this season has been a necessity, the requirement of us to lead change may be even more significant in the months and years ahead. The skills for leading your team, your ministry, your church or community through change will be invaluable both now and into the future.

Motivating Young People in their God Given Potential (Live)
Dan will focus on key strategies to motivate youth – strategies that he has learned as an elite sportsman who has found identity and purpose away from sport, and as he continues to walk alongside others to help them to do the same. Learn together from Dan’s life story and the depth of his experience among young people.
More about Speaker
From 13 years of age, Dan’s daily reality was the tenacity and pressure of high-performance sport as an elite swimmer, competing (successfully) against Ian Thorpe and others.
As the pressures of identity grew, so did drug and alcohol abuse. After time in a Christian rehabilitation centre, Dan was able to face reality and encounter the love and redemptive power of Christ. Overcoming incredible odds, he then represented Australia in the 2016 Olympic Games. In this journey, he has learned to rely on Christ – and has discovered that his experiences connect with and impact others.

Social Justice and the Bible (Live)
Let’s go on a journey together to discover how we can authentically and powerfully show Jesus’ love in our world. Social justice is a mandate of faith and a fundamental expression of Christian discipleship. Social justice has its biblical roots in a compassionate God who throughout time shows his love and compassion for the weak, the vulnerable, the marginalized, the disenfranchised, the disinherited.
Biblical references to the word “justice” mean “to make right.” Justice is, first and foremost, a relational term — people living in right relationship with God, one another, and creation.
In Jesus view, justice means loving our neighbor as we love ourselves and is rooted in the character and nature of God. As God is just and loving, so we are called to do justice and live in love.
“He has told you, mortal one, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
Some have suggested that the pursuit of social justice is the decisive mark of being people who submit to the will and way of God. Let’s explore this together.

Student Engagement - Advanced Skills (Live)
The engagement of students continues to be a priority because this is how religious instruction becomes a meaningful part of a student’s life journey. Whilst most of us have core skills, often supported by the RI curriculum and resources, there are more advanced skills that heighten the engagement and learning for students. This session will focus on these skills. The increasing quality of RI materials we work with provides an opportunity to accelerate the types of skills and approaches that bring out the best engagement in learning. So join me, be open to being stretched into new engagement ideas that complement our RI materials.

The Role digital media can play in kids ministry
As Kids Leaders we are all too aware of the digital landscape our kids are navigating in this high- tech world. It can be a daunting prospect to lean into this space as a ministry resource, however it could be the difference between a child having a good experience and the whole family and ministry team having a great experience. Learn how to leverage digital media that helps children and their families to engage deeper with the Gospel.

I commenced my position at Suncoast Church in March 2020 right before we plunged into lockdown. What I thought was just crazy bad timing began a unique opportunity to take a step back and relook at how we run Sunday programs, onboard and look after our volunteers better and engage with parents and guardians more effectively. One breakthrough, which for us has been a gamechanger, has been the implementation of digital media. Turns out there is a lot of resource out there and I have been fortunate enough to find the right fit for our church. Digital media has provided us with the margin to develop different strategies, empower new leaders, extend our incredible volunteer base and work towards creating environments our kids love to attend. I would love the opportunity to share some of our journey and hopefully provide valuable insights in to how a good kids program can realistically become a great ministry.

twenty-first century living: anxiety, uncertainty and constant change
Humanity has been grappling with an invasion of mind. Fear and anxiety have moved in and whilst it is understandable when the world does not feel stable, we know we are made for greater things. This session aims firstly to help understand what is happening in anxious moments for individuals and its effect on relationships. We were designed and created for relationship and anxiety can often dent and damage the ways we connect with others and with God. The pandemic and other world issues have generally intensified feelings of anxiety, confusion and uncertainty. With that in mind, we will also explore lifestyle strategies to inspire thinking around positive connections for improved mental health and support for ourselves and our families as we continue to turn away from fear, uncertainty and constant change and turn towards the Father for His guidance in all circumstances, even when the world continues to show instability.
